An Update on Wavyleaf Basketgrass

Last month, I posted on an invasive disease of walnut trees that was headed our way, and has now been found in Virginia. Another invasive, Wavyleaf Basketgrass, has become more firmly established and threatens to greatly impact biodiversity in Virginia's forests. For an excellent review of this plant's history in Maryland and how it is spreading, check out this recent article in the Baltimore Sun. Then visit www.stopthisplant.org for fact sheets, a Powerpoint presentation, images, and other materials that you can use to teach other Master Naturalists and people in your community about this species and the problems it is causing. We can still slow the spread of it in Virginia, and perhaps eradicate it from some locations where the infestation is not yet extensive.
