In late September, representatives from (hopefully) all 30 Virginia Master Naturalist chapters will gather at Camp Friendship near Palmyra in Fluvanna County for our third annual volunteer conference and training. The Rivanna Chapter is hosting the event this year, and the conference committee has planned a weekend jam-packed with advanced training, camaraderie, and plenty of time outdoors. There are currently 90 people from 17 chapters registered, although the early bird registration deadline is still more than a week away. All but two workshop sessions still have space, so there are still lots of great choices of activities, including sessions on forest history and management, developing a stream monitoring program, trail design for both interpretive and hiking trails, land navigation for naturalists, and more. See http://www.regonline.com/2011_vmn_conference for a complete conference schedule.
The conference is open to all Virginia Master Naturalist volunteers, whether you are trainee, a member, or certified. It's also open to chapter advisors! Register now to join us September 23-25! Online registrations are available at http://www.regonline.com/2011_vmn_conference.
