Pocahontas Master Naturalists Featured in Chesterfield Observer

The Pocahontas Chapter of the Virginia Master Naturalist program was featured in an article in the Chesterfield Observer for their work in building a nature trail for students at A.M. Davis Elementary School. The VMN volunteers helped design and build the interpretive trail, provided funding for the project, and help lead nature walks for the students. It was a chapter-wide effort, involving 20 volunteers and 120 hours.

Outdoor classrooms are valuable resources for schools, particularly if designed in collaboration with the teachers so that there's a plan for how to use the trails and space to meet Standards of Learning and accomplish classroom objectives. Research shows that time outdoors improves health and learning in children.
