This is the time of year when many of our Virginia Master Naturalist chapters begin their annual basic training courses. The 40 hour course is essentially the gateway to becoming a chapter member and a Certified Virginia Master Naturalist. I am excited to report that demand for the program still seems to be high! In the last couple of weeks, I taught the first night of class for the Riverine and Pocahontas Chapters, both of which were full with 25+ new trainees. Last night I was snowed out of teaching the Intro class for the Peninsula Chapter, but I understand that they were also full with 20-25 trainees. The Rivanna Chapter has received 20 applications for their training that starts in February. Other chapters starting their training courses in February include the Alleghany Highlands Chapter, the Rockbridge Chapter, the Roanoke Valley Chapter, and the Holston Rivers Chapter.
The Arlington Regional, Fairfax, Shenandoah, and Tidewater Chapters are starting their training courses in March and are accepting applications now.
